Casino Withdrawal Documents: Checks and Complaints

Identify the request, record the timeline and use the named operator's formal dispute route.

Gambling Commission guidance

A verified account can still face a later check

A casino's Verified badge does not mean no further documents can ever be required. Identity, payment ownership, anti-money-laundering checks and customer-protection enquiries can involve different information. The useful first question is what this particular request is for, when the need arose and what remains outstanding. The fact that it followed a withdrawal does not by itself prove that it is either justified or improper.

The Commission's condition 17.1.1 prohibits additional withdrawal information that could reasonably have been requested earlier, while preserving information needed at that time under another legal obligation. This guide applies to its Great Britain framework, checked on 13 October 2026. It gives a decision path for documenting the issue, not a legal verdict on an individual dispute or a promise that a particular payment must arrive tomorrow.

Step one: identify the purpose of each document

Make a separate line for every item requested. An identity document, address evidence and a bank statement are not interchangeable. Ask what information the operator needs to establish and which acceptable documents can establish it. A general message saying 'send KYC' leaves too much room for a repeated rejection that could have been avoided with a precise request.

Questions to clarify, not a universal document list
RequestQuestion for the operatorRecord to retain
Identity or address evidenceWhich detail cannot be verified?Requested document type and date range
Payment-account evidenceAre you checking ownership or a transaction?Relevant account and transaction references
Financial or source-of-funds evidenceWhat period and source need explaining? The exact request and acceptable evidence

The Commission's consumer guidance gives examples of documents but does not prescribe one identical list for every customer. Your operator should clarify the actual requirement. Do not fabricate a document or substitute a friend's payment account to complete a check.

Step two: ask when the information became necessary

The timeline helps distinguish an old unanswered identity issue from a new obligation. In an invented example, a person registers on 2 October, supplies requested ID on 3 October, then asks to withdraw £80 on 10 October. A fresh request on 11 October should be recorded with its stated reason, rather than summarised simply as 'already verified'.

Ask: 'Which check remains incomplete, and why was this information not requested at the earlier verification stage?' The operator may be able to explain that a later payment or new information created a different requirement. It may also be unable to reveal every detail of a legal investigation. That does not erase the need to keep the request and responses. Avoid announcing that every later bank-statement request breaks the rules; the condition expressly accommodates information required by a later legal obligation.

Step three: use the verified secure route

Check the exact domain and legal operator before sending personal documents. Use the secure upload route identified in the genuine logged-in account or confirmed operator procedure. A social-media reply, search advertisement or unsolicited support email is not enough to establish that the recipient is the company holding your balance.

Clarify file type, readable detail, date range and any permissible redaction before uploading. For an invented request covering September, sending an unrelated July statement can produce a further request without answering the original question. Keep the upload date and any receipt or case reference. If you cannot use the requested format, explain the problem and ask for an acceptable alternative; do not assume that a different document will be accepted. Never include a password or one-time login code in a complaint record.

Step four: distinguish the payment's stages

A withdrawal can be awaiting verification, awaiting operator approval or already sent to a payment provider. Ask which stage applies and obtain a reference. Those stages have different evidence. If a payment has been sent, a payment reference and method may help your bank trace it. If it has not been approved, a bank cannot resolve the operator's outstanding check.

Do not borrow another customer's payout time as your deadline. The Commission's identity guidance does not specify one universal timescale for all ID checks. Record the operator's published estimate and any promised update date, including whether it uses working days. An estimated three-day payment and an unresolved formal complaint are different clocks. Keep the withdrawal pending rather than gambling with money you intended to withdraw while waiting for an explanation.

Step five: make a formal complaint with a clear outcome

A useful complaint gives the account reference, amount, withdrawal date, document requests, responses and the outcome sought. Identify it as a complaint and follow the operator's published route. A series of disconnected chat questions can make it harder to establish when the business received the actual complaint.

For example: 'I requested an £80 withdrawal on 10 October, reference ABC123. I uploaded the requested September statement on 11 October and received acknowledgement XYZ. Please explain the remaining requirement and provide the current payment status.' Add the relevant terms and correspondence as evidence. Keep the facts separate from accusations. If the matter is not resolved, request the complaints-stage decision in writing and the name of the ADR provider designated for this kind of transaction dispute.

Use our licence check to name the responsible company accurately. A game studio or platform supplier is not automatically the respondent holding your casino account.

Step six: the ADR route and its clock

The current Commission guidance allows referral to an approved ADR entity when the operator has not resolved a dispute within eight weeks, taking account of any permitted pauses, or sooner when a final position or deadlock is reached. The provider must decide whether the dispute falls within its remit. ADR is not a guaranteed payout order and does not cover every regulatory concern.

Read the business's current procedure to find the relevant provider; do not assume IBAS or eCOGRA handles every casino. Keep the first complaint date, final response and any explanation of a paused clock. Ask the ADR provider what evidence and eligibility rules apply. Report a suspected licensing failure to the regulator through its official route, but distinguish that report from pursuing payment: the Commission is not the service adjudicating every individual balance dispute.

A one-page case file avoids repeated explanations

Keep one chronological file with five columns: date, event, reference, evidence saved and next promised action. In the invented £80 case, the entries would distinguish the withdrawal, request, upload acknowledgement, formal complaint and written decision. Store sensitive documents securely and share only what the actual procedure requires.

The broader player-protection guide explains the framework; this article supplies the practical record. If the balance includes bonus money, our 10x wagering examples help distinguish promotional conditions from deposit money. Do not pay an unsolicited person who claims to unlock a withdrawal, and do not send fresh deposits to prove that an existing balance belongs to you. A documented request for clarification is a safer next step than adding another transaction to a disputed account.

FAQs

Can a casino request documents after I am verified?

Yes, a later legal obligation or new information can justify another request. The Commission's condition also prevents an operator using withdrawal as the moment to ask for information it could reasonably have requested earlier. Ask what the specific document establishes, when the need arose and which secure submission route applies.

Which documents must I send for a withdrawal?

There is no universal list for every account. Ask the genuine operator to identify the check, acceptable evidence, date range and upload format. Identity, payment ownership and source-of-funds enquiries can need different information. Do not send sensitive documents through a search advertisement, unsolicited message or unverified support address.

How long can casino verification take?

The Commission does not give one universal identity-check timescale. Ask which stage is outstanding, retain the operator's stated estimate and request a dated update. Processing, verification and bank settlement are different stages. A previous customer's withdrawal time does not establish your deadline, and the complaint clock is separate.

When can I take a withdrawal dispute to ADR?

Use the operator's own complaint procedure first. Current Commission guidance provides for ADR after an unresolved eight-week period, accounting for permitted pauses, or sooner at a final position or deadlock. Ask for the designated provider and written decision; the ADR entity determines whether your dispute falls within its remit.
