Which UK casino operators no longer hold a licence?
Nineteen companies in our UKGC register data have ended licences since January 2025 and now hold nothing active at all, on the casino side or anywhere else. Seventeen surrendered their licences and two had them revoked. The list below shows the latest end date on each register entry, checked in October 2026.
One caution before you read it: a company giving up its licence does not always mean the brand has closed. Large groups often move a brand to another licensed company in the same group, so the old register entry goes quiet while the site carries on under a new licence holder. The lists show what the register says about each company, not what happened to every brand.
Revoked, surrendered or suspended: what the status means
Surrendered means the licence holder handed the licence back. It is the usual exit, and it can mean a brand closing, a business being sold or a move to another licence.
Revoked means the Gambling Commission ended the licence. Aspers Online lost all three of its licences for non payment of the annual fee, which is an administrative failure rather than a finding about how players were treated. Fairbetter's licence was also revoked.
Suspended means the licence still exists but the operator cannot use it for the time being. That is a different, temporary state, and Targetlocal Limited, for example, currently shows a suspended casino licence on the register.

Several of these are well known names. Where a brand you recognise appears here, such as Sky Bet or 32Red, check where it operates today before drawing conclusions: the register entry for that company is closed, and the brand may now sit under another licence holder. Open the licence holder page, check the domains and trading names, then look up the licence number shown in the site footer.
When the licences ended, month by month
In 2026 so far, licences ended in February (two: Virtue Fusion and Genting Casino Stratford), March, April, May (two: Richmond Atlantic and Sharedbet), June, August and September, with nothing ending in January or July. That is nine companies in nine months.
In 2025 the pattern was more even: Betzone and Fairbetter in January, then one each in March, April, May, June, October and November, and two in December when Rednines Gaming surrendered and Aspers Online was revoked. That is ten companies in the year.
Taken together, roughly one UK licence holder a month is leaving the register entirely. That is a small number against the whole market, but it is enough that a casino you used a year ago may now sit under a different company, or may be gone.
How big were the operators that left?
Most entries are small, with between one and four domains. A few cover many brands. TGP Europe's entry lists 24 domains, Bonne Terre's lists eight, Playbook Gaming's seven, Dazzletag Entertainment's six trading names, and Lottomatrix Operations' five domains.
A long list of domains on a closed entry is the thing to watch for when you are checking an old bookmark. It means a single surrender can affect many sites at once, and some of them may have moved to a new licence holder while others closed.
What a closed register entry looks like
On an entry like these, every licence row shows Surrendered or Revoked, and the trading names and domains are marked Inactive. If the brand you are looking for appears only as Inactive, the register is telling you that name and address are no longer covered by that licence.
Each of our licence holder pages in the lists above repeats these statuses, and notes the sister brands and domains the company ran, so you can see at a glance whether a brand you know sat under it.
Why a surrender does not always mean the brand has closed
Brands change licence holder for ordinary business reasons: a group merges its licences, a platform provider takes over, or an owner sells the brand. When that happens the old company surrenders and the new one applies, which is why the register can show an entry with no active licences next to a brand that still takes bets.
The reliable test is the domain. Take the exact address in your browser and look for it on a register entry with an active licence. If it is listed under an active licence, the brand is licensed. If it appears only on an entry where everything is surrendered or revoked, or on no entry at all, do not deposit.
What to do if you have a balance at one of these brands
Start by logging in through the official site if it still runs, and withdraw your balance. If the site is gone, write to the licence holder at its registered address and keep copies of emails, transaction records and statements.
Where a group has entered administration, as the Aspers Group companies did in April 2025, a claim may have to be made to the administrators rather than the operator. If you paid by card and the service has stopped, ask your card provider whether the payment can be disputed.
Be careful with sites that appear after a closure using the old name and promise to "transfer your account". They may be lookalikes. Only follow a transfer notice that you can match to an active licence and a domain on the register.
How to check any UK casino in under a minute
1. Find the licence holder's name or account number in the site footer.
2. Open that entry on the Gambling Commission public register.
3. Check that the licence status says Active and that the exact domain in your address bar is listed on the entry.
4. Check that the brand name matches a trading name on the entry.
If any of these four fail, treat the site as unlicensed in Great Britain. Our guide to checking a casino is UKGC licensed walks through the same steps, and our casino reviews show the licence holder and official domains for each brand we cover.

FAQs
Which UK casinos have lost their licence?
Nineteen operators have ended every licence they held since January 2025 on our register data, seventeen by surrender and two by revocation, including BresBet, Aspers Online and Fairbetter. The lists above show each one with its brands and end date.
What is the difference between a licence being revoked and surrendered?
Surrendered means the operator handed the licence back, often when closing a brand or moving it to another company. Revoked means the Gambling Commission ended it, as with Aspers Online for non payment of fee.
Does a surrendered licence mean the casino has shut?
Not always. Groups sometimes move a brand to another licensed company, so the old company surrenders while the site continues. Check the exact domain against an entry that still has an active licence before you play or deposit.
Can I get my money back if a casino loses its UK licence?
Try to withdraw first, and write to the licence holder if the site is gone. If the company is in administration, claims may go to the administrators. Ask your card provider whether a payment can be disputed, and keep all records.
How do I check whether a casino is licensed in the UK?
Find the licence holder in the site footer, open its entry on the Gambling Commission public register, and check that the licence is active and the exact domain and brand name are listed on that entry.
