Bet St George UKGC Licence: Suspended, Then Surrendered

No. Bet St George Ltd, the company behind www.betstgeorge.com, no longer holds a Gambling Commission licence. The regulator suspended it on 28 August 2026, and the company surrendered all of its permissions on 4 September 2026.

Checked against the UKGC register in September 2026, all four remote activities show as Surrendered: Casino, Bingo, General Betting Standard - Real Event and General Betting Standard - Virtual Event. Each had run from 10 December 2025 to 4 September 2026.

The Commission said its enquiries had revealed suspected social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings at Bet St George and at a second bookmaker, BresBet Ltd. A week later, on 4 September, both companies surrendered their licences. The regulator's statement on the BresBet and Bet St George suspensions was updated on 5 September to confirm the surrenders.

The link between the two is personal rather than corporate. Bet St George's chairman, Nic Brereton, founded BresBet, a horse racing and greyhound bookmaker, in 2022.

A patriotic sportsbook that lasted about six months

Bet St George launched in March 2026 as a sportsbook and online casino built around English sport. Football, horse racing and big national sporting occasions were at the centre of its branding and promotions.

It gained its licence in December 2025, went live three months later and was suspended six months after launch. Its register entry shows the licence lasted less than nine months in total.

When we tried to load betstgeorge.com in late September 2026, the site returned a server error rather than a working homepage.

Bet St George Ltd is a private company, number 16512340, incorporated on 11 June 2025 with its registered office in Sheffield. Companies House lists Nicholas James Brereton and Rebecca Brereton as persons with significant control, each holding more than 25% but not more than 50% of the shares.

Nicholas Brereton is the company's remaining director. A second director, Sarah Jane Laycock, resigned on 10 August 2026, less than three weeks before the suspension.

The Gambling Commission register listed no other trading names or domains for this company, so there were no UK sister sites under the same licence.

The Gambling Commission said the suspension did not stop Bet St George from letting customers log in and withdraw funds, and it told the company to make sure customers were not unnecessarily disadvantaged by the closure.

Bet St George's closure notice asked anyone with a balance to email support@betstgeorge.com, with all claims due by 30 September 2026. If you have money left in an account, send your claim now and include your username, registered email address and the balance shown.

Keep screenshots of your balance, open bets and any emails from Bet St George. If your claim is ignored or disputed, that record is what an adjudicator or the regulator will ask for.
